For my birthday treat, Ian suggested we take the children out to Te Whanga where I grew up. It was a lovely thought because I have wonderful childhood memories there.
Te Whanga is an Angus stud and the homestead is situated in beautiful developed English style gardens. Dad was the gardener and we lived in a small cottage on the property. We had free range of the gardens, swimming pool and tennis court. Summer was a childs dream, we kept chickens and horses, cared for fruit trees and dad had the most wonderful vegetable garden. It was indeed happy memories.
Charlie and Daddy enjoying the magnificent vista views.
Charlie loved the open space to run.
The gardener's cottage we use to live in, peeking through the trees...
It was lovely to take in the moment with the kids.
Walking up the garden path.
The kids were delighted to find a wee bike.
The gardens and Charlie walking towards the main house.
A friendly pet lamb came to greet us.
Charlie's highlight of the day, finding a truck!
The best present was finding this huge seed pod from what we use to call the "Devil's Claw" tree.
The drive back home.
What a wonderful birthday!
