This has been a project I have been wanting to make all summer. It's from Heather Ross' book 'Weekend Sewing". I had been stalling because it needs a lot of fabric, but last week at the thrift shop I stumbled upon this wonderful red and white striped fabric along with a vintage card full of emerald green trimming. I knew exactly what it was destined for.
The pattern is very easy and you only need basic sewing skills to make it. Knitting needles are used as tent pegs and the trimming was used for the ties. I had to add my own little touch with the felt toadstools and I used my vintage bark cloth fabric to make up some little lounging cushions.

The children thought it was wonderful. They spent all afternoon going in and out, pretending to sleep, reading books, doing puzzles and playing with their toys. Oscar had a little nap and then we all had our dinner under it, summer bliss.
Cost: $5 (all items sourced from thrift stores)
Time: 3 hours
Outcome: Seasons of fun and adventure! xx

Oooooh this is GORGEOUS! I actually like yours far better than Heather Ross's (no offence to her) but then I'm such a sucker for stripes. And the toadstools! And the cushions! Alright I'll stop now. I love reading your blog, it's very inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

oooo I love it! Am going ot have to find something in my stash for my litle ones, as hut building is HIGH on the list of things to do everyday...we currently have one in every room...

I think it's wonderful too. Some favourite memories from my childhood are playing out on the lawn in 'houses' made from cushions and sheets and chairs. Here's to many more happy hours play!

Posted by: Rebecca | February 19, 2010 at 08:23 PM
Hi Rebecca, they are little strawberries. Sadie loves this dress
because its got little puff sleeves. It was a thrift shop find ~ $3.
Its her princess dress.

Just Gorgeous! Love the fabric, what a great find. My kids would love this too - a vintage sheet would be a good thing to use too.
