2015 marks 150 years of Lewis Carrol’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and as part of the Kokomai Art's Festival we attended a wonderful event celebrating Alice's' birthday.
Costumes, events, games and a fabulous tea party!
Sadie dressed as the White Rabbit while Oscar and Hugo dressed as Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.
Sadie, Oscar and I have been making forest fairies ~ they're rather addictive and super easy.
All you need is two pipe cleaners, a wooden bead, a glue gun and any bit's 'n' pieces you may have around like wool, fabric scraps, ribbons, felt and fake flowers, oh and loads of imagination!
Inspired from this book.
Once you have the basic body mastered you can let your creativity run wild.

The ribbon used for the wings here look like they are fluttering.
Here we used bits of leather for the wings to look like oak leaves and we used real acorn caps for the bowl and for her hat.
Here we used real feathers for the wings and made a cute little satchel from leather scraps.
Fake flowers make beautiful skirts and hats.

I found my favourite childhood story book at the thrift store a little while back.
Oscar chose it for story time and to my joy he fell in love with the book as I did at his age.
He learnt a new word ~ finial. He was intrigued that they were placed on houses to frighten witches away. He asked if our house had a finial. Though our house is of the right era, sadly we don't have one.
So while on our afternoon walk we went finial spotting. We found some superb examples.
Then we found the 'ultimate finial'......

My cousin sent me this photograph of me as a child. I've never seen it before and I'm not sure where it was taken, but I'm loving my outfit!

This morning we joined a relaxed and friendly foraging class with author Johanna Knox. Her book 'A Forager's Treasury' is beside my bed and each night I have a flick through it, so it was wonderful to have a hands on lesson on foraging for food in our own surroundings.
I enjoyed seeing some wool fibres Johanna had dyed with plants.

Still here waiting. I'm really enjoying the time I have, especially now winter seems to have set in.
Today was a perfect day to settle in front of the fire with my recent purchase, Sweet & Simple Handmade by Melissa.
The book hasn't disappointed, pure Tiny Happy inspiration.
This baby is going to be most snuggly when he arrives.
This piece I have hand dyed in navy blue and added the little embroidery detail. Just hoping it doesn't look like a funny looking Xmas tree, but I love the colours.
This little yellow set I found at the thrift store for $1.50, super cute with a little embroidery.
The back is a bit messy, but it was fun to do.
This is Oscar's favourite book at this moment......
I gave him a little surprise when he came home ~ a plate of donuts and a glass of apple juice because as the story goes
"If you give a dog a donut he will ask for some apple juice to go with it."

Sadie at mama's work
Sadie loves coming to work with me, I feel very lucky that I can bring her when need be. She loves to look at the new books, play on the computer, eat her lunch in the staff room, draw, colour and chat with my work mates. At the end of my shift she always has a large pile of books to take home with her.

I had a gorgeous photo shoot on the first day of winter with three beautiful children, Freya, Sylvie and Xavier.
I'm slowly making my way through the photographs and thought I would share a handful of my favourites of the two girls.
Xavier is patiently waiting for his ones and I hope to share those ones with you in the next few days.

Charlie and Sadie received some exciting mail today, their copy of 'Beyond today: a values story'. It was exciting to see themselves on a cover of a book and they remember that day so well.
Claire contacted me a few months back ~ there was an uncanny resemblance to the Values Party 1975 manifesto 'Beyond tomorrow' and my photograph seemed fitting to use on her publication.
'Beyond today' is being launched this weekend before the Green Party's AGM in Wellington.
