Sunday afternoon the children collected flowers from the garden.
They carefully pulled the petals off.
Charlie was intrigued with the different parts that made up the flowers. He found one that looked like a fairy.
I drew a basic butterfly shape onto a firm piece of card and placed pieces of sticky contact onto the wings. Then children then placed the petals onto the contact paper.
With another piece of contact over top they made gorgeous window decors. The light shined through making the wings translucent and beautiful.

Inspired from this website, Sadie made her own shadow theatre from a box and a pillowcase.
She used shadow puppets purchased from Felt last Christmas, but is keen to make some of her own.

Some reinforcement for the sides.
The parchment paper we had wasn't wide enough,
so I sacrificed a white pillowcase which worked brilliantly and will be more durable.
The first show
We watched performances all morning involving a princess, a castle and dinosaurs.
This is so exciting.
Sadie spent a lot of time and thought on her design, so it was very special that her design was one of six chosen by the marvellous Dee for her 2014 Tiny Eyes winter collab.
There's a whole story behind Sadie's design which I will share with you soon.
To view the other five designs and to follow the progress visit Needle & Nail.
This gorgeous headband hasn't left Sadie's head since receiving it.
It's made by Kristin of Hello Fallow.
We are enjoying autumn in New Zealand, but you could be mistake it for spring seeing Sadie in her beautiful floral headband.
Stick men, stick women, stick birds, stick aliens!
You just need sticks, glue gun, goggle eyes, fabric, wool, ribbons, feathers, pipe cleaners....anything goes!

This morning we joined a relaxed and friendly foraging class with author Johanna Knox. Her book 'A Forager's Treasury' is beside my bed and each night I have a flick through it, so it was wonderful to have a hands on lesson on foraging for food in our own surroundings.
I enjoyed seeing some wool fibres Johanna had dyed with plants.

~ Bonnie with pine ~
We then headed off into the fields to see what we could find.

Last weekend I was honored to take photographs of my little friend Vita and her brother Tom picking daffodils.
Vita is a very independent two year old and chooses her clothing all by herself. She is nearly always seen wearing a tutu and I was delighted when she arrived wearing her orange tutu.
Even better was when Dee asked if she could design a Tiny Eyes doll inspired by Vita's gorgeous outfit. The best compliment ever!
What great style Vita and what a beautiful doll Dee.
This is our story of growing up in New Zealand
